So, you’re new to Polygon and just found out about PolyDoge. It’s fun, gives you benefits for HODLing, and boasts one of the largest communities on Polygon.

You want to buy some, but don’t know how. This guide is for you then.

Put on your space suit, captain.

By reading this quick guide, you’ll also learn the basics of Polygon (which is becoming the hottest layer-2 network on Ethereum). And you’ll be able to buy PolyDoge, one of the most popular community tokens on Polygon. Buy it for the memes, stay for the community.

Let’s walk through four methods of getting your money onto the Polygon network. Which method is best for you depends on where your funds are originally.

UPDATE (June 4, 2021) — You Can Now Buy PolyDoge on a Centralized Exchange

This guide was originally intended to teach users how to buy PolyDoge via QuickSwap (a decentralized exchange). It requires using a bridge to move funds from Ethereum to Polygon and then using Quickswap to make your purchase. It’s not a difficult process, but definitely requires a few steps.

However, there’s an even easier way now for crypto newcomers. We’re happy to say that PolyDoge is trading on MXC exchange. You can now trade PolyDoge on there like any other major crypto-asset without needing to go through all the steps mentioned in this guide. Click here to visit the POLYDOGE-USDT pair on MXC exchange.

However, Quickswap still has the best liquidity for PolyDoge. So, if you plan to invest a sizable amount in PolyDoge, we still suggest reading through this guide and learning how to use Quickswap. It’s where all the magic happened for PolyDoge and it’s worth learning the ropes.

Anyway, back to the guide…

Little Details to Know Before Starting

  • Matic and Polygon are the exact same thing. Polygon used to be called Matic and they rebranded.
  • Addresses on Polygon look exactly like your Ethereum address. They all start with 0x…. and so on.
  • Polygon is a network just like Ethereum so funds need to be bridged over. For example, you would use a bridge to move funds from Ethereum to Polygon.
  • When you create a Polygon wallet, you will AUTOMATICALLY be sent 0.001 MATIC which is enough for a few transactions. Pretty cool.
  • Once you move your funds to Polygon, you can enjoy near-instaneous transactions which cost $0.00001 each.
  • Quickswap is the most popular decentralized exchange on Polygon and you’ll be buying PolyDoge there.

First Thing’s First: Add Matic Network to Your MetaMask

Metamask is a must for any of these steps. It’s a wallet that lets you plug into any crypto-related apps while also giving you full control of your funds.

I’m not going to get into how to set up your MetaMask wallet. If you don’t know how to setone up, then this may be too complicated for you already. Read this guide on how to set up your MetaMask, if so.

Once you have MetaMask already installed on your Chrome browser, you have to add the Matic Network to it.

  1. Click the Ethereum Mainnet drop-down menu at the top of your Metamask.

2. Scroll down to Custom RPC.

3. Input this information:

Network Name: Matic Network

New RPC URL: https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com/

Chain ID: 137

Currency Symbol: MATIC

Block Explorer: https://explorer.matic.network

That’s it.

Now, whenever you are using QuickSwap, make sure you select Matic Network from the dropdown menu. This ensures you are connected to Matic via your MetaMask wallet. And you’re good to go!

Method 1: Move Your Funds from Ethereum to Polygon Using Matic Bridge

This is the method most use, but it is not the cheapest. You will have to pay ETH gas fees to move your funds to Polygon.

Make sure that your ETH address on your MetaMask has some Ethereum (ETH) in it: however much you want to transfer + $20–30 in ETH for gas.

  1. Go to https://wallet.matic.network/ and connect your Metamask (while on the Ethereum network). Now click the Move Funds to Matic Network button.
  2. Input how much and what you want to move to Polygon. Could be ETH or any other erc20 token like MATIC or USDC. Accept the transaction in your Metamask and pay for the gas.
  3. Wait 7–8 minutes for the funds to be moved from the Ethereum network to Polygon (Matic).

4. Success! Your funds are now on Polygon.

5. Go to quickswap.exchange and connect to the Matic Network on your MetaMask. Now you can buy some PolyDoge on Quickswap.

6. Click “select token” on the main page and copy & paste the PolyDoge contract address: 0x8A953CfE442c5E8855cc6c61b1293FA648BAE472. See pic below.

Paste the contract address (0x8A953CfE442c5E8855cc6c61b1293FA648BAE472) here and PolyDoge will come up.

Now swap for PolyDoge and you’re all set.

To see your PolyDoge tokens in your MetaMask wallet…

Click “Add Token” on your MetaMask and select “Custom Token.” Copy and paste 0x8A953CfE442c5E8855cc6c61b1293FA648BAE472 in the Token Contract Address box and everything will be filled in. Click accept.

You will now see your PolyDoge tokens in your MetaMask.

Method 2: Transfer from AscendX Exchange

Let’s say you don’t have any ETH to spare and want to directly hop onto Polygon. So far, only one exchange supports withdrawals of MATIC to Polygon network and that’s AscendX.

So, it’s pretty simple.

  1. Buy Matic on AscendX Exchange.
  2. Withdraw the MATIC and make sure to click MATIC NETWORK when doing so.
  3. Now you have some MATIC in your address and you can now buy PolyDoge on Quickswap. Read step 5 onwards from Method 1 for instructions on how to buy.

Note: You will have to wait 24H before you can make any withdrawals if your AscendX account is new.

Method 3: Use BSC-Matic Bridge

If you’ve been using Binance Chain (BSC) and want to trade on Matic, bridging from BSC to Polygon is quite easy.

  1. Have some funds on BSC ready and go to xPollinate.
  2. Connect your wallet and choose Binance Smart Chain Mainnet to Matic Mainnet.
  3. You can only transfer DAI, USDT or USDC. Choose which one.
  4. Once it goes through, you can buy PolyDoge with those stablecoins which are now in your wallet on the Polygon network.
  5. Go to QuickSwap and buy PolyDoge. Read step 5 onwards from Method 1 for instructions on how to buy.

Method 4: Buy with a Credit Card on QuickSwap

This method may not be available in your country, but it is an easy way to get some MATIC and buy PolyDoge with your bank account.

If you are connected to the Matic Network on your MetaMask and are on QuickSwap, you will see a “Buy” button at the top. You can use this to purchase MATIC with Euros, British Pounds, Indian rupees and other currencies.

When you enter the payment portal, you will first see it is automatically set to buying ETH. Click on ETH and it gives you other options — select MATIC. This will allow you buy MATIC on the Polygon Network.

Select your payment option and make sure everything is in order. Once you have purchase some MATIC, you can now easily buy some PolyDoge (Read step 5 onwards from Method 1 for instructions on how to buy on Quickswap).

By now, you should be a Quickswap pro and have hopefully picked up some PolyDoge for yourself. We’re here to stay — expect to see us more and more as the Polygon Network grows. The fun has only just begun.
